'Howto' guides you have written that never took off?

Hi,

Thought I would start a thread for all those budding Ubuntu tutorial writers who spent hours on a tutorial and have seen it buried unnoticed in the forums :(. Just to make it all a little more positive can I suggest that people mention their successes as well as their bombs? I will start the ball rolling:

My Guide that Bombed:

Howto: Duplicate Audio CDs using cdrdao (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=795181): A guide I spent a loooong time researching that shows how to duplicate audio cds from the commandline. 2 users left a thanks and next to nobody used the guide. Doh!!!!


My Guide that Rocked:

[Howto] Successfully install the svn mplayer + gmplayer + all the codecs. (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=558538): A huge success, I will never admit to the hours I spent on this one :-).

So, any takers?

i think a lot of tutorials are looked at more than may be apparent. there are many people that use the search function for a particular guide, who may not be members, therefore leave no feedback, or may be members, and leave no feedback anyway. i know they must be hard work to accomplish, but please persevere, i couldn't do this kind of thing myself, and it is always good to find someone who has the talent that has put together something that makes it easier for others. :-)

i started an article designed to be a comprehensive noobie guide to the myriad of installation methods and what the differences are: apt-get, synaptic, .deb, adding repository, running directly from archive, etc

... but i decided i dont think there would really be that much interest in it so i stopped. :)

I'll contribute two examples, although I have plenty. Good guides that a lot of time was spent on, but become buried quickly are the bane of my existence:

I will second that. I am the happy beneficiary of many a howto on this forum. I will endeavor to be more verbose with my thanks. Keep putting those howtos out there!

Here on my disk I have an almost complete guide on how to hack *.glade files to change the interface of some programs. I never published it because the target audience is too small, I imagine.
