I installed xubuntu on a old pc and when I installed xubuntu in the past on this same pc, I was able to select the vesa driver or any other video driver when doing a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg in the past. I tried dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg and it just says "overwritting phssible-customized configuration file;... and gives me the # promtp. I'll modify the xorg.conf manually and see what happens.
I never even get a chance to select a video driver manually.

Have the same problem with Kubuntu.
On my comp's Hardy runs perfectly. Tried 8.10: unsynced monitor
(Geforce 6600 and Benq FP767)
Only 800*600 possible. There is an option to use a driver CD: for what and where to get?
BTW: Riva2TNT and 19" Samsung is perfect with 1280*1024.
