I've been a loyal KDE user for 6 years now, this KDE 4 is a real pain - no I do not want to start a flame war.
How do I change my box to gnome, within my kde? I have kubuntu 8.04 using kde 3.5 working just right.
I do not want to fight - just to upgrade to 8.10 and use gnome
Thanks

You can install Gnome with
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
And if you want to upgrade to 8.10, then here's a link.

Late reply. In mid-October I was checking out the beta 8.10 with KDE4, and yeah, many things I did not like (especially the little skinny black lines that appeared everytime I typed) and the noticeable slow down even with no compiz enabled. I do like some of the new things in Konsole, but it was not enough.
However, I got a decent kernel (2.6.26) and the new apt by going to Debian Lenny and a very sry KDE 3.5.10. on my old computer. That would be another option. It was a very slick install, and not that hard to get my preferences set up and my scripts all work. Debian testing - Lenny is much more stable than K8.10. I used the Oct 06 build.
(No flames, I still have Hardy 8.04 on the new computer. I might try kde4.2)
peace, Mark
