Well I upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 (both 64) and I my having issues. I'm not sure if they're all related, but they might be. When I boot into 2.6.27,
1. Compiz will not work
2. Dragging windows jerks very badly
3. Scrolling in Nautilus and Firefox is very laggy, causing a refreshing "line" to go up the screen while taking up 50% of my processing power (I've got a 3.0 Ghz Dual-core, so I doubt it's its fault.)
4. Openning any of the "places" (Home Folder, Desktop, etc.) in the Places menu opens into VLC for some odd reason...
5. My ntfs windows partition fail to mount automatically, and when I click on it in places, it says I'm not privileged.

Overal It's lagging bad enough in general I can't use it. When I boot into 2.6.24, compiz works, and the lagging isn't as bad, but scrolling still lags a little and causes my processor to just to 50% (though for just a moment in 2.6.24). The places still open in VLC in 2.6.24.

I tried reinstalling compiz, but it didn't help. Any suggestions? I can't find anyone having similar problems (except for with compiz).
