View Full Version : [ubuntu] Removing and Re-installing OpenOffice 2.4 Broke Hardy Heron?

I wanted to upgrade OpenOffice 2.4 to 3.0 in Hardy Heron. This is what I did:

Removed 2.4 using Synaptic
When I noticed it also deleted Firefox, I decided to back-out.
That is, I did not want to proceed and install 3.0.
Then, I just re-installed OpenOffice 2.4 and Firefox...
It worked fine... but I noticed Firefox and other apps are running slower.
Did a re-boot.
I could log-in, but...
could not get to Ubuntu/GNOME desktop.
I tried recovery mode boot but didn't help. Still can't get to the Desktop.
I can still log-in to Ubuntu as root, command line only.

Now how do I fix my Hardy Heron? Can I still revive it? Do I need to re-install Hardy Heron from scratch?

For more details... have it on my blog:confused: (http://n3wbuntu.blogspot.com/):
