Missing left channel after upgrade from 8.03 to 8.10

I just upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid, and now my sound is right channel only, the left is dead in both applications and "sound preferences" test tones. When I booted with an 8.04 live CD, both channels still work there. Computer is a Presario c304r with Connexant audio. Any ideas to fix this?

The sound that works is controlled by the right side controls, however when I play test MP3's with only left or right sounds, it is the left one that works.
