Upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 worked great at first. After reboot, system hangs or boots to non graphic mode, no gnome. Reboot to recover and after several tries finally back to GUI, anyone know how to fix this?

I had the same problem yesterday, took me ages to get 8.04 LTS working, then I read I could upgrade to 8.10 easily, well, not quite. It restarted in the command line, I had backed up the xorg conf file, restoring it didn't help and through the recovery mode I chose the option to fix the x, but that didn't help either. Before I upgrade I tried to get the right driver for the video and it didn't work, so I thought in upgrading to 8.10 would help.
I was using the 64 bits version, would it be the problem?
