I've recently gotten way more into hardware than I used to be. (It's like a cautionary tale. First my DVD drive stopped working, so I had to crack open a computer for the very first time to replace it. Then I decided to upgrade my RAM and my hard drive. And now I spend whole hours on Newegg just plotting my next upgrade. Parents, talk to your kids about hardware before someone else does...)

Anyhoo. I was wondering what everyone's favorite computer forums to drool over the latest Intel chips are, and what your favorite computer forums in general are (besides these wonderful forums, of course. *g*).

The Ars Technica forums over at http://episteme.arstechnica.com/

Covers most areas, and the community there is pretty good too.

I get the impressions that it's an older demographic, and slightly less moderated than here, for better or worse.

I also read the Whirlpool Australia broadband forums, but not very often.

www.techguy.org

A very large number of users (mostly Windows users) and they have a very active "Civilized Debate" forum that puts UF's former Backyard/OMGPP forum to shame. My guess is their moderators don't bend themselves out of shape trying to over moderate it.

In the UK, there is DigitalSpy (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/) that has a forum covering popular media and electronic devices, amongst others. There is a board on the forums dedicated to computers. The forums have had 30,000,000 posts!

forum.thinkpads.com counts I suppose, although it's mostly a support forum.

I like the Arch Forums, do they count? Or does it have to be a forum unrelated to any OS or distro?

Don't laugh, it's a very decent (albeit small) community.

I used to post on the old mod times' forums until the good people disappeared and the site got taken over by Nazis with a hardon for the 50's.

Now this is the closest thing I have to a computer forum.

No, doesn't have to be related or unrelated to anything. I'm just curious about people's favorite computer forums. There are so many out there and it can be hard to find the good ones.

I just recently found the Arch distro and I like their forums too. :)
