Hi all!

Yesterday I upgraded my notebook computer from Ubuntu Linux 8.0.4 to 8.10.
This notebook also has Windows XP Pro installed. Before the upgrade I used to switch from one OS to the other via the dual boot menu and could always access the Internet from both OSs. Now ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu Linux 8.10 I keep getting a Network Cable unplugged when booting into Windows XP Pro. I am not experiencing this issue when booting into Ubuntu Linux. Something must have occurred during the upgrade but I cannot find the cause of this problem. I've tried disabling the NIC and enabling it again and even re-installed the driver under Windows XP Pro. No success. It seems that Linux has made some permanent settings to the on-board NIC. Has anyone encountered this issue before as I am completely stuck!

Thanks!
Pierre

What's the vendor, motherboard, and NIC? Does this happen only when rebooting live, or also on initial power-up?
