On my HP MiniNote 2133, after the Ubuntu logo and the bar, the screen goes black. Then it goes gray with a blinking cursor. I get no logon screen.

What do I do?

Well, I tried a new install. That fails too. I get an abstract picture on the screen, but the mouse pointer is frozen, and it is hung.

That sounds like what mine would do when it lost the Nvidia driver.

Well, a second try at a fresh install (in safe video mode and with a usb mouse) worked. But now I am again without wireless for my Broadcom BCM4312. There is supposed to be hardware support for this in the new kernel I think. How do I enable it?

Amazingly, when I enabled the hardware drivers and rebooted, the wireless was on, and Network-Manager connected to wpa2 with no complaints! That is a major improvement.

But my next hurdle is installing everything.
