I have a Dell Dimension 8300 with a Pentium 4, 3.0 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, and for some reason, it will not install or even load Ubuntu. I have tried installing 8.04, but it locks up during the kernel loading stage at the very, very beginning of the process.
Now that 8.10 is out, I decided to try again. I have tried several different CD's, including the Alternate CD, and every time it's the same thing: the computer boots up into the Ubuntu menu and waits for me to select what I want it to do. As soon as I do, it waits a few seconds, and the screen goes black and restarts the computer.
I ran a Memory Test on it using the Ubuntu cd, and it worked and passed it. Thanks for any help.
