USB mouse pointer and clicking location out of sync (desktop seems to be hanging) - auto-magically fixed itself.
Unable to add new users, only the group gets added - still a problem
Open office has weird illegible fonts - FIX: Install Liberation Fonts

Samsung ML-1520 printer prints with artifacts on the left side of page - FIX change driver to Samsung ML-1520 Footmatic/gdi [en]

I guess I still have some days of fiddling before everything is smoothed out.

I also want to try a fresh/new install - but am unable to boot from SATA DVD drive.

Part of the fun is fixing teething problems like this, just a matter of time ... before I discover some more problems and solutions!

I appreciate that putting a distro together like Ubuntu is a hugely challenging and complex task, so thanks Ubuntu for your gift. :)
