I have a Dell e1505 laptop that has been running XP Pro and Ubuntu 8.04 successfully for a while now. Yesterday decided to upgrade to 8.10. Used an alternate cd to do the upgrade. Worked fine. synaptics then showed 400+ updates to download and install. Did this and rebooted. After selecting the newest kernel option in GRUB, made it to Ubuntu loading screen. Was eventually met with this "(initramfs)".

Went back and selected newest kernel (recovery mode). Hung at "waiting for root file system".

How can this be fixed?
