like probably many others (thousands?), i ugraded my 8.04LTS to the
latest 8.10 - thinking it would be very much like the usual upgrades
every few weeks, or as painless as the jump from 7.xx to 8.xx was for me.

used the internal ugrade facility, seemed logic. a few questions and
precautions, and off it went. took forever, but finalized with the request
to now reboot, after about one hour.

great. reboot it did, the UBUNTU sign and progress bar comes up and
actually moves, and ... BANG -->> black text screen with a mssg
'BusyBox v1.1.3 ...' and a prompt saying 'initramfs'!

now what? where is my UBUNTU i have set up and maintained so carefully
for the past few months, almost a year? what do it do now? why does
this happen with a community project that supposedly gets checked, before
the final release, by 100's of people who all know 1000times more than i do?

greetings - heinz -

Hi,

I have the same problem after upgrading my 8.04 to 8.10 in wubi. Booting in recovery mode I see that mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/F6721D16721CDD65 on /root has failed.
However the 'normal' measure (being chkdsk /r on windows and reboot 2 times) does not work in this case.
Although it is not my production-machine, I would appreciate any help.

thx,
Tim
