I wandered over to Dell's website and they were still selling machines with 8.04. When will Dell support 8.10?

8.10 has only been out for a few hours, chill.:)

Dell do some customisation to ubuntu (codecs ect) so probally a week or 2 until it becomes available.

What holds someone back from just buying a Dell 8.04 and upgrading it to 8.10?

Still! Wow... They are so behind. I mean, the Dell 910 has been out for almost a month, and it is the first product of its kind Dell made. They should get with the times and update their entire stock with a new OS, for this new computer, immediately.

Seriously... I think Dell would be well off to stick with LTS, and possibly give upgrade options.

Agreed. Although they could allow people to change the starting OS to 8.10 as a option but keep LTS as a default. And they could do with more PC options for Ubuntu.
