What is the exact time (in GMT), when 8.10 will become available on the ubuntu servers?

14 seconds after 14 seconds before the instant it is successfully loaded.

Unknown. It's released at some point while it is 30 Oct in at least one timezone on the planet. That's all we know. It all depends how long it takes to roll the ISOs and get everything synced between the mirrors.

To be honest, I would avoid the Ubuntu download servers on release day, they'll be painfully slow.

Instead, get the official .torrent file off the full download page and torrent 8.10. It'll be a lot, lot faster, with the added bonus that the torrent client will MD5 check the download as it goes. Plus you'll save Canonical bandwidth costs so they can spend the money on paying the devs!

Be patient fellows, good things come to those who wait. Usually the ISO is released around 20:00 UTC In Pennsylvania, America. Since it is only the 29th here, I wouldn't expect it soon.

The afternoon in what part of the world though? It might be the 31st here by the time it comes out... That would be lame (for me).

I don't know when it's being released, but I'm eastern standard. I downloaded a copy of the release candidate, and it hasn't been updated yet. I assume the now RC that is available to download is going to be 8.10 unless many bugs have been reported.

October 30th, 2008, 04:27 AM
So, If I install the current release candidate and even if the official release is different I can still update the RC through Software Update?

It's released on October 30th, however timezones do make a difference. At the time of this posting, it's already the 30th UTC time, but the site will not be upgraded until work starts :). However, you will most likely receive connection errors to the server, as the entire world will be upgrading. Better off upgrading a couple days before, or a few after official release.

peterhob
October 30th, 2008, 09:28 AM

True, they said on the 30th. They just didn't say when on the 30th. Sometimes it takes a couple of extra hours for them to get all their ducks in a row.

I suggest patience.

October 30th, 2008, 10:00 AM
I would suggest patience. Those guys are working on it (as they've been working for the last 6 months to get it ready). So don't push it.

For 8.04 they made an extra effort because this was a Long Term Support release. I'm not saying this is an excuse (well I'm not accusing them anything at all:D).

We should move the release date one day forward (for all of you inpatient guys) so it would be available "on time" (which it will also be today). A little joke. I know you all are very excited about new release (I am too) and that's great for ubuntu and linux.

soo... Don't worry, the release is coming...

Peace!

Unknown. It's released at some point while it is 30 Oct in at least one timezone on the planet.

So they have 50 hrs to release it. 24 for the furthest time zone wast (UTC-12), 24 for the furthest time zone east(UTC+14, M†), and 2 for the 2 extra in between(UTC+1, UTC-1). I think there might be a -13 time zone too but wiki says there isn't so I will go with that.
