Upgrading to the gimp 2.6.1

I'm trying to upgrade to the gimp 2.6.1 but for some reason I can only get 2.4.5. I've tried uninstalling the gimp and reinstalling it by using apt-get, Add/Remove, and the website Appnr.com. What gives? No matter which method I use I still get 2.4.5.

Which version are you running, Gimp 2.6.1 is available for version 8.10

I was running 8.04. I guess that's my answer. I just updated to 8.10 last night and I have it installed now. Thanks! Are there certain dependencies only available in 8.10?
