View Full Version : [kde] a way to open files from the command line?

Hey folks,
I am looking for a way to open various types of files from the command line.

What I want is something that would open the file the say way it opens if clicked on in d3lphin. Say foo bar.svg would open bar.svg in inkscape and foo baz.png would open baz.png in gwenview...

It seems to me that this program should exist, but a quick googling didn't find it... Does anyone know about something like this?

xdg-open foo.jpg
where "foo.jpg" is your file name.

After coming across your post, I got curious about this myself. So after doing a quick Google search, I came up with this:

I think this is what you were looking for.

Hope that helped.

if you right click on a file say a mp3 and open with other application you can choose which program you can open it with and it will remember that program ever time you open a mp3 samething with pic or avi files...
