View Full Version : [ubuntu] hard disk formatted

a friend of mine while installing ubuntu accidently selected the option use full hard disk and as such whole of his hard disk was was formatted.
however due to some error the installation failed and the system had to be rebooted and then it would not boot.
when he booted off the live cd and ran the command
sudo fdisk -l
it showed two partitions one was 146GB and the other was 2 GB(SWAP).
the larger partion showed around 20GB free space(which was the free space before formatting also) and the filesystem as linux.
is there some way of recovering the data he had earlier stored on the hard disk

is there any the old MBR can be recovered..........
