Have a look at the Google Trends graph of the last 4 releases:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=feisty+fawn%2C+gutsy+gibbon%2C+hardy+hero n%2C+intrepid+ibex&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

(here's a better view of just 2008, with 9.04 added) http://www.google.com/trends?q=feisty+fawn%2C+gutsy+gibbon%2C+hardy+hero n%2C+intrepid+ibex%2C+jaunty+jackalope&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2008&sort=0

So far, Ibex has received slightly less overall interest than Hardy Heron at this stage of the release. It'll be interesting to see the spike of searches for Ibex and how it compares to Heron.

Then again, most people don't search for the release name, but for the name of the distro, so here's just "Ubuntu"

http://www.google.com/trends?q=ubuntu

That shows a fairer picture of where we are.

Also, I wonder if we'll break another record for the "most users at once", like we did for the last release?

It'd be a shame if we don't break any new ground, because Ibex is (IMO) the best release since Gutsy or even Feisty.

I guess it will be.

There are new Ubuntu (linux) users every day, so I would presume that every release will be more popular then it's predecessor.

And I agree with your last statement.

The only problem with the Ibex I have is that my camera won't work with it.

I've filed a bug report and the bug has been triaged. I'm waiting for a dev to start working on it and release a fix for it (hopefully before the final release is out).

I don't want to upgrade to Intrepid Ibex. I want to stay with Hardy Heron for the long term. The deal breaker will be backports. I use 64-bit and if the OpenJDK isn't backported from Intrepid (I hear it works perfectly in Intrepid) I will be mad. Other than that, I don't foresee any major improvements I can't live without.
