I saw that on failblog.
I suggested he use a combination of (whatever the name of the program is that sends a video stream through your desktop) and mplayer.

I always wanted a way to turn my monitor into a mirror too. It's a shame it isn't possible, but I never thought about scanning a mirror!

Seriously, it's possible to do that in Linux.

That program wouldn't happen to be xwinwrap, would it? :p

I'll need to remember that.

Anyways, you'd have mplayer take video from your webcam and put it through xwinwrap which would go to your desktop.
It would be awesome.

I'd love to have an animated desktop, but from what I've read, I wouldn't be able to have icons on the desktop. :(

Once again, I forget the name of the program, but there is one that draws icons over a desktop even if there's no file manager managing the desktop.
