I have an old laptop, Fujitsu. The bios is dated 1998 and when I tried to install the latest Ubuntu it failed because the BIOS was too old. Is there an older version I can use? I just want this computer for running messenger programs for my grand daughter.

Can Anyone HELP?

I have an old desktop I built that has AMI bios from 1999. It can boot a live cd. Did you set the bios to boot from the cd drive as the first boot device?

Does the laptop have a floppy drive? If it has one you can install Debian with floppy disks.

I just thought of another thing. You could try using Puppy Linux on a multisession cd. That way you don't have to instal anything to the hard drive. Puppy Linux http://www.puppylinux.com/

Well, do you get an error message? If so, then when in the installation process exactly are you getting it, and what exactly does it say? Does it only say "BIOS too old" or is there more information with it?

You can ofcourse try searching for a BIOS update for your particular laptop model on the web.
