A complete change isn't needed, just a signficant change or usage of Linux or open source.

when i was the manager of a small music store last year, I made frequent orders from Ernie Ball, a large guitar string and accessory company. I was talking to my rep about their computer systems. apparently, they used to use Windows but they got so sick of the frequent crashes and insane license fees that they adopted Linux a couple years back.

I asked her when the last time they had a computer problem was...

"uhhh... I can't remember ever having a computer crash with this system." was her reply.

Why? America, which I am not really sure what you mean, is very large. As noted, some South American nations use Linux. I don't see why the Americas will be any harder than anywhere else.

If you meant the USA, the USA is very large and diverse. The states of the USA are often larger than many nations. Linux use in the USA isn't low, so I don't know the basis for that statement. Linux is used all over the place.
