Hey all, I am using the new beta (I know, don't expect full stability and all, but I couldn't get my lan drivers to work in hardy so I have to use it)

I just built this computer, about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

The motherboard is an ASUS P5Q pro, and I am using onboard sound.
I am dual booting xp and ubuntu

When I first installed ubuntu I had no luck getting the lan drivers to work with hardy, so I gave up and tried intrepid. It worked flawlessly, and everything was perfect save a few random crashes. Later, I am pretty sure it was after an update, but when I booted up ubuntu I noticed my sound was muted (the little volume indicator was x'ed out). When I unmuted my sound, I noticed it still wasn't working. Upon further inspection I noticed that my speakers are making a scratching noise when sound is being played but it is very faint.

I'm not too familiar with all the details of Ubuntu being a long time windows user. What am I doing wrong here?
