When using Unetbootin to make a bootable USB drive for an Ubuntu install, do you have to run the program and prepare the portable drive on the same computer you plan on doing the new install?

My computer was running XP. Using Unetbootin, I replaced XP with Kubuntu. I realized I did not like Kubuntu. Now I want to replace Kubuntu with Ubuntu using the same method and I can't get it to work. The laptop doesn't have an internet connection, so I used another computer running XP to download the ISO and create the bootable USB. Does this not work?

I want to learn the Linux way, but I can't learn until I have something to practice on!
