I'm using XP right now and thought it would be nice to have a copy of Linux to dual-boot with. I chose the Ubuntu variant Ubuntu Studio, because the only thing I would use Linux for is audio/graphics work. The ISO burned to a DVD-R fine, but I encountered a problem while going through the installation process.

I only have a single partition on the hardrive I'm installing to, and that single partition refuses to shrink itself. I'll fetch more information on the error in a bit.

I would suggest you use GParted's boot disk to do it. I have run into similar issues in the past altering my partitions (I have 6), but since I started using GParted's boot disk, I have not had ANY problems messing with partitions...

Thanks, I'll try that later.

You have to defragment it, even if it's not full, and run a file system check, all from XP, of cause.
