View Full Version : Favorite Car Regions

Hello, After reading through several polls asking people which of two or more car companies they like, it occurred to me that these were too narrow. Being a car guy I was interested in which car "regions" people liked more. In other words, if you bought a Toyota and liked it a lot, you would say that you preferred Asain cars. If you loved your Ford pickup better than any other vehicle you have driven then say American etc, or if you liked your VW then European. When posting please list at least the region, manufacturer, and model that you drive or like and if possible 'why?'.

----------------------------------
I love the RSX as a sporty body and build, but having an I4 makes it easy on the wallet :) I do not currently own one but am planning on buying one soon. Quite a few people I know own them and love 'em.

Region: Asain
Manufacturer: Acura
Model: RSX

I would have prefered the option of picking multiple options. I would have picked Asia & Europe as I think they both have some good cars.

Sorry about not offering multiple chooses, but that would defeat the purpose of a "Favorite". As it is I am rather amused by the fact that out of the 5 votes so far, NONE have been American. Now, why do you think that is? :lolflag:

I think the very best automobiles are born and bred in Europe. However, to the average American, many European models are not an option; they are either too expensive or are not available for purchase here (the high MPG diesel models for instance).

It looks like the swing of financial power from the West to the East is complete. :)

Or maybe it is late in most places in the USA and they didn't get to vote ;)

It would make sense to me that vehicles were popular in their homeland so to speak. A car is a big thing to mail to another country.

I thought you meant regions inside a car...back seat, front seat, trunk...that could get XXX-rated very quickly.

Many of the "Asian" brands are manufactured in Europe though.

My best ever car a Toyota Carina E was built in Derby England.

Yes, you are right. :-)

Though quite a few Japanese cars are manufactured in Oz.

The yank tanks have such poor handling, brakes, they generally are heavy, prone to rust & guzzle fuel.

Whereas the Japanese make vehicles that generally handle, stop, go, don't rust, are lighter, use less fuel & are reasonably priced though prices are a variable relative.

Although, in the end, the automotive industry is corrupt, being a scam to milk as much profit out of the very old technology being that of the internal combustion engine. The auto' manufacturers & the oil companies will just keep on keeping while ever they make profit.

I'll be glad to see this technology superseded.

Myself I'm heading for a Clydesdale horse & a cart. :lolflag:

Have you seen what the feed costs, farrier and vet bills for those things are like? :D

In this day and age cars get shipped all over the world and it is no big deal.

I recall once seeing a specialised car cargo ship in port and was amazed of how many cars they drove off that ship and onto trains. It's basically a massive floating car parkade, really amazing.

In some parts of the world, with some cars.

Indeed. In the UK there are some cars of US origin, Cadillac, Chrysler, Jeep, Chevrolet, Dodge, but they do not sell particularly well.

The biggest sellers are probably Chevrolet, but only because they're Korean.
GM bought out Daewoo and rebadged the whole range as Chevrolet, this change of branding has actually made them less desirable.

Most car brands are owned by only a handful of manufacturers. The idea of a regional car brand is dead, has been for years.

They are generally good doers & often don't require as much food as smaller horse breeds. I live in the country so I will only be up for a bale of lucerne a week, which I can pick up from more than one farmer on my road. A farrier is a running cost I can cope with, I will be looking into using organic/natural methods for worm control, & any other vet costs, well so be it.

In the end my Clydesdale & cart will cost me less to run than a car, they will keep their value much longer than a car. The horse will become a much loved part of the family, which will eventually love us back in its own way.

I will gain a great deal of joy from training, caring for the horse & of travelling in the cart. :-D

Which brand makes the ones that don't have to stop at the gas station again?

Doesn't matter, they both suck. A match made in heaven.

Was Mexico one of the choices?

I used to be of a different opinion. The fastest car I ever owned was a Chevy. But now I'll stick to my Isuzu. Trusty and musty. I'm just pretty much over the whole this car is better than that one thing. They all could be a whole lot better in many, many ways. I think cars and computers should be made so they can be upgraded with advancement in technology as much as possible. I can't afFord a new one every few years nor should I have to. Keep it simple.

You should not run horses & goats together as the goats carry a form of worm that horses are vulnerable to. Goats also tend to want to stay away from horses.

I was told by someone who raised horses that a goat is a good companion for horses. Perhaps this depends on the place (we live in very different parts of the world, you and I).

I think I read that info' in a U.S. book called: Training Workhorses, Training Teamsters by L.R. Miller.

Apparently there are no better books on the subjects, I say that as it is two books bound as one.

I know exactly what you mean, my wife has a horse and derives huge pleasure from it.

I on the other hand derive huge bills from it, mainly due to the fact that because the horse resides in a field some distance away from our home she travels 50 miles every day to visit it. :(
She likes the location where the horse is and refuses to move it closer to home and has actually suggested we move house to be closer to the horse...

My favourite car make is Peugeot. They look and drive good and the price is not too high.

My favourite car (besides the obvious super cars) is the Subaru Impreza.

I won't laugh, I know that can be tough stuff.

Twenty five years ago I new a couple that had a similar problem.

I had a 1997 Impreza WRX for a year or so. It got around 32 miles to the imperial gallon if you stayed off the turbo. It drove like a normal car until you started to get up around 4000 rev's, then it was more like a rocket on rails.

I'm glad I didn't own that car when I was 19 years old. I doubt I would have lasted a year.
