Another linux Noob here....

I put together my first new build last night:

GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2H
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+
CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Thermaltake Blue orb II CPU Cooler
WD Caviar GP WD5000AACS 500GB
SAMSUNG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner

I've been trying to install 8.04.1 amd64, but with CD boot it's been freezing after some pretty messed up "ubuntu" graphics on "installing local driver..."

Any suggestions? Is this a driver issue, should I try 8.10 instead?

FYI my CD is a good burn (according to the ubuntu disk check)

Thanks
PS I'm kinda glad I ran into at least one snag...figuring that I really shouldn't have enjoyed my self as much as I did playing with all that nifty hardware.

Have you tried installing in safe graphics mode ?

If that does not work the try installing from the ALTERNATE (text based) CD version of Ubuntu instead of the DESKTOP (live) CD version.

Good luck. But if you decide that you can't get it to work, you could package up that hardware and mail it to me !!!

Ha, I haven't given up on it yet! :)

I was prompted to change the graphics mode during the start up process (b/c my graphics processor wasn't recognized), but chose to use default (lowest resolution) for startup.

So you don't think it is a driver issue? I was afraid my MB was giving it trouble.

Yes, it probably is a graphics issue.

That's why you need to try SAFE MODE GRAPHICS or ALTERNATE.

Thanks, it is solved, the alternative boot was all I needed.
