Hi,

I have a small problem while installing Ubuntu on my Desktop PC. I have downloaded Ubuntu 8.04 from the website and burned the image on a disk. While installing Ubuntu through Wubi as shown in the Wubi Installer FAQ, it completes the step and when I reboot and select Ubuntu to load. I get the screen with Ubuntu and below there is a taskbar which shows processing, but nothing happens after that and I am unable to see the Ubuntu desktop.

I have brough my PC in the year 2003. Below is the configuration:

2.4Ghz P4 Processor
40GB HDD
Intel Motherboard
512MB DDR RAM
OS : WinXP Professional

Please let me know as how should I proceed, so that I can use Ubuntu on my system with or without WinXP.

Thanks in Advance

With or without XP? admirable but probably unnecesary ;) I ,personally, have no experience with Wubi but I can tell you dual-booting Ubuntu and Xp could not be easier, if that is an option for you.

Thanks for your reply.

I understand that installing XP and Ubuntu on the same system may be complicated, however I am ready to uninstall XP and install Ubuntu. Need help on the above problem.
