Just received my Ubuntu disks and the live disk seems to work really well in a Compaq X1000 laptop. I'll be installing it along with several other OS. Spent quite a few hours partitioning, repartitioning, re-repartitioning, etc., but I've learned a lot. Wrote zeros to the drive and I should be able to do it for good this time.
I've already passed on two copies of Ubuntu and a third is spoken for.
I'm a regular at Hardware Central Forums, have installed linux several times over the years, got it online once with the former Redmond Linux. Always wanted to use linux, never got around to it. Since I don't game, and love Firefox, linux should make a good fit for me.
