Is there a way to install Hardy 8.04.1 Standard Desktop Version from the web onto a machine all in one step? In other words, download and do a clean, new install using an Internet location as the source?

I have an AMD Athlon 1700 2.66 ghz processor, 80 gb drive, (512mb memory) PC that is begging for Ubuntu, but the existing CDdrive refuses to recognize any of the ten different cds I have cut on various burners or any of the versions from 6.10, 7.04, 7.10, through my goal of 8.04.1. The CD drive does read commercially manufactured discs.

The USB port under Win98SE is non-functioning due to a conflict between the AMD processor and the USB controller, something I hope will change once Ubuntu takes over.

The question.... is there a way to magically install 8.04.1 to a PC from online?
