I have four different desktops on my computer and every time I change the background to one it changes them all.
So my question is how do I change all the backgrounds to something different?
Thank you.

As far as I know Gnome doesn't support this..
KDE does by the way..

What ,in your opinion, is better?
And how drastic of a change is it from gnome to KDE

It is a matter of personal preference.
Also.. KDE may be a little more demanding on your resources.
Just give it a try, you can have both Gnome and KDE installed.

How do I switch between them?
I have had KDE before and I am partial to both.

The easiest way I have found to switch between them is at login time. Both GDM and KDM (Gnome's login screen and KDE's login screen) will have a menu to choose what environment you wish to use when you log in. Depending on which one you are using I believe the option is in a different place.

You may also want to take a look at Wallpapoz (http://wallpapoz.akbarhome.com/) gnome utility that lets you deeply configure gnome wallpapers
