View Full Version : [kubuntu] How do I download / install widgets from the Internet?

I am using Kubuntu 8.10 KDE 4.1.

I can add widgets to the desktop but only those that are already installed from the Kubuntu Intrepid install.

When I try to use the "download widgets from the internet" option, there are no widgets to select from.

Does anyone know how to fix this / point my widget download manager to the right web address etc?

Thanks in advance

Same problem here. There used to be some but they did not work with the new version of Plasma. So I ASSUME that this is on purpose waiting for everything to catch up to the latest version. The price of the bleeding edge. If that's not true, I'd like to know about it too.

I personally do not use KDE. GNOME all the way for me. I don't know if this thread pertains to your problem, but I say it'd be worth a try.

I'm using debian rather than kubuntu but i only get one plasmoid (widget) listed. I know they come from www.kde-look.org where you can download them manually.

However, the plasmoids/window decorations/styles, are not available for all distros. They are only downloadable as source packages, deb files, rpm files etc.. This is in contrast to gnome themes/window decorations/emerald themes which are distro agnostic - that is to say you download the theme and it can run on any gnome desktop. For me kde4 is inferior in this way as it seems that you can only have a window decoration/plasmoid/style if it has been packaged for your particular distro and even then you need to install it as root. This may explain the lack of options to download new plasmoids/themes/window decorations directly from the desktop. Colour themes, icons and plasma themes come in files that work for any distro (which explains why they are all downloadable from the desktop).

Looks like it'll be Jan 09 before this feature is ready.
