Help:Move folder off desktop

How do I move my personal folders off the desktop. I tried to delete them off, but they came out of my "Places" folder as well.

I don't even know how they ended up on the desktop in the first place.

From the terminal you can use the move command to put them back in your home directory

mv ~/Desktop/filename /home/user
change filename to the actually file name and change user to your username.
