New updates, X server fails to start

After I updated my install I can no longer boot into my desktop and I'm stuck at the prompt/safe graphics mode. I needed to select an older kernel in grub to get a working desktop. Any way to fix this? I'm using the non-free nvidia graphics driver on a GeForce 8800GT. Desktop effects are disabled.

Get into Recovery Mode of your latest kernel and try 'xfix'

he he, forgot about xfix. Anyways I did that, I got into my desktop and reinstalled the driver via Envy. Everything works now but that shouldn't have happened in the first place. I never had to deal with anything that silly since Edgy.
