Have you got build-essential package installed?

rkakkar

thanks man.. i can't the following packages though. any idea where they would be?

checking for G2IPMSG... configure: error: Package requirements (libgnomeui-2.0 >= 2.14
gtk+-2.0 >= 2.4
glib-2.0 >= 2.8) were not met:

No package 'libgnomeui-2.0' found
No package 'gtk+-2.0' found
No package 'glib-2.0' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables G2IPMSG_CFLAGS
and G2IPMSG_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Look for dev versions of those packages.

Try installing these packages
libgnomeui-dev libgtk2.0-dev libglib2.0-dev then run ./configure again.
