Hi everyone!
After years of ms usage from dos 4 to Xp i decided to give Ubuntu a try, well i attempted to download the 64bit ver and install it but was unsuccessful. So i am running on ver 5.10 with my AMD Athlon 3000+ running on low power, with the occasional crash.

BUT! WOW i am impressed! :D well done to all the people involved with creating this fantastic package! Thank you to all the developers, i am looking forward to getting the Cd's for my 64bit desktop. :)

Greetings, glad you're enjoying it. What happened in trying to install Ubuntu 8.04?

Version 5.10 is away back, it may not be supported now.

If your system has got low resources you might want to try Xubuntu, it needs less to run.

Anyway, good luck.:)

Hey Tommy100

Welcome and congrats!
You should check out the latest version and you'll be even more impressed ;)

And I think Durban needs to be called the windy city this time of the year.. it's been howling!

Received ver 8.04 from a kind gent in jhb! :D Installed and downloaded all the updates. :D Pc Bios on normal settings. Having fun, installed wine, now i just need help getting the PC to see my Cannon PIX iP1000. i dont see any drivers for that model. iP2000 yes.. But not 1k ;(. Everything else is working well. Had to set the pc to slower settings initially, but once the updates were done it started crashing so i set it back to normal and everything started coming right! :D

Read this thread:

The first tutorial is from 2005 so it might be something easier on another (more recent date) page. At least it should work. Ubuntu 8.10 will include automatic download for printer drivers though.
