No sound on fresh install, but no errors!

Are there any documents on where to start with this, I really don't have a scoob! I get nothing that looks sound like (at least with my linited knowledge) greping dmesg.

A pointer or two would be a very much appreciated!

Ah yes, I can see how that would come in handy!

uname -a gives me - Linux laptop 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:43:41 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

The box is an HP laptop, the big 21 inch screen media centre one, if that identifies it, don't know the actual name of the model!

If there are any commands I can run to tell you more, I'll be happy to do it!
