Google thinks I'm a "computer virus or spyware application". Happens when I do a search from the firefox search bar. Is this a bug? Is it Firefox? Is it because I'm not using Mac nor Windows? Is it because Google is plain stupid?

I don't think its a bug, since I use Firefox on ubuntu intrepid and don't get this error. Of course if you run hardy though, then it could be. I doubt it though.

This is the only second time this has happened to me, and it's still happening.

I have had this same problem. Are you using Google translate? Also, are you on a network or a proxy?

Try clearing your cache. If that doesn't work would you happen to have other computers behind the same network which are perhaps running windows? If so, they may be the problem.

after smartboyathome's suggestion, try going to http://www.google.com/ncr

Not using Google translate. I'm behind a router. There was a windows computer behind the same router a couple of hours ago.

Going to /ncr shows the error. But if I go to my local google www.google.co.th (http://www.google.co.th) it works fine.

I'm searching for "measuring computing time". Happens for everything else I've tried as well.

I cleared the cache. Same output.

That could be it then. The windows computer which was behind the router could have been infected, which caused you to not be able to use google.

But I can still use my local google, and use google normally in Epiphany. I could try restarting X, rebooting, resetting my router..

Wait, are you saying a virus can actually infect my router?

The problem seems to be gone now. I didn't do anything else.

You're viewing this page http://www.google.com/sorry/misc/?continue= ?

If you're not using static IP:
- Check if your IP is blacklisted somewhere: http://whatismyipaddress.com/staticpages/index.php/is-my-ip-address-blacklisted (not that Google mentioned anything, but they might be using blacklists)
- Maybe some other computer was using that IP, restart the router/modem and change IP ?

Hm.. I just looked at http://www.google.com/sorry/ - it allows you to actually do the search by typing in some characters

I have had this error before, but while I was using windows. I never figured out what was causing it. Eventually it went away, I just wanted to let you know that your not the only person whose received the message.

Umm... how would a windows computer becoming "infected" stop a linux computer from using google? Is this an anti-google virus that affects both oses? What's it called?

Well, theoretically, the virus could be pinging Google non-stop and Google auto-blocks the IP address.
