my laptop's CD-ROM is not working properly (thanks to Lenovo y-410).
It is not recognizing anything && if ever it recognizes, it shows the media as blank.
As i cannot boot from CD, i am unable to install any OS on my laptop(currently using ubuntu hardy). Is their any way, such that i can install a new OS by first putting it in
the hard drive.

You could load it onto a USB stick and boot from that, although you may need to alter your boot sequence in your BIOS. What are you trying to install?

You could install via PXE. For Windows, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=943327.

For Linux, see http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu_pxe_install_server.

Unetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/)
