Is anyone else experiencing this same problem?

Will the ubuntu site have the same problem(s) when II 8.10 is out?

It's dead as a dodo. Give it a few hours and should be back up and running.

Bi-anually, Ubuntu.com grinds to a halt. Unless you have a pressing need to get the VERY latest release, I would wait a few days and then download, or better still use a torrent. Last option, upgrade to the BETA and then let it roll up to the latest release.

You can download from mirrors like http://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/office/openoffice/stable/3.0.0/ and http://ftp.surfnet.nl/pub/office/openoffice/localized/

Just got this email...

All,

We must apologize. OpenOffice.org 3.0 is proving immensely,
staggeringly popular. And our site is down as a result. While we fix
things, we urge you to be patient and try again later on tonight,
tomorrow, this week. It will still be there.

Oh, by popular, we mean it: figure hundreds of thousands of users,
mostly Windows users, but also Mac OS X and Linux and Solaris users,
all trying to download it all at once.....

Cheers, and thanks for your patience,
Louis

Any torrents out there? I feel bad to use their overloaded mirrors at the moment.

Update: Got it from Google, if anyone's interested.

Site is still down, but have found other mirrors.

Oh and 'lol' at the mod who tagged the thread with more 'power scotty'.

I'm surprised that a piece of software can cause a website to go down/go offline, simply because it's so popular? Similar thing happened to mozilla when FF3 cameout...same for ubuntu HH 8.04...capacity planning out the window?!?!
