It seems to work ok with Wine (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=8688&iTestingId=14159) :)

I don't think they will ever make linux binaries for it. They would have made them rightaway as they did with NwN1.

...and anyway it isn't as good as the original NWN.

As an employee of Atari Europe, I can safely say this isn't going to happen.
EDIT: BioWare released the freely downloadable Linux Client in June 2003 (purchase of game still required). I did not know this.

Other Atari games have been ported to Linux via collaborations with other software companies.
UT 2004 was ported to Linux by id Software.

NWN2 Seems to run quite well for me using Play On Linux (http://www.playonlinux.com)

UT 2004 was ported to Linux by id Software.Wrong, it was Icculus (http://icculus.org/~icculus/resume.txt) which was contracted with the port. id had nothing to do with it.

I still haven't finished hordes of the underdark. I do plan to finish it eventually.

I don't think it would happen.
Bioware was ready to make linux binaries if Atari approved it, but they didn't.

I don't think they will either - however they certainly did not make binaries for LInux right away with NWN1 - the Linux binaries came out quite a bit later - from memory I'm thinking a year or more. Contrary to what they suggested it was not written to be portable and required a lot more work then they initially anticipated.
Regardless - I'm just glad I was able to play that awesome game on my platform of choice.
