What the title says, how do I replace the fugly "netbook interface" on Ubuntu-eee 8.04.1 with a normal Gnome desktop?

I would love to know if this is possible to. Just installed this with the understanding that I could access a normal desktop.

My sister has an eee-pc and her friend that helped work on it to remove the annoying GUI says nautilus runs but then the notebook interface loads. He got to remove the whole notebook interface and is now in a regular nautilus desktop. I guess do some searching with nautilus with apt-cache and see if find anything.

Have a look here (haven't tried it) - going with Mandriva 2009 for now as it is "an out of box experience" - and for a change
