---Note: Problem solved, the ASUS was not compatible. I replaced the Asus video card with a eGeForce card and it works.

I just set up my ubuntu 8 and have a Asus AGP 3800 TVR video card. I have setup Hardware Driver to NVIDIA (legacy card) Enabled. And this helped my slow running 3D screen saver so I know it had an effect on the card.

However when I go to System, Preferences, Appearence, Visual Effects, it is set to None. When I try to go the Normal I get,
Visual effect could not be enabled.

The Terminal, compiz O/P is:
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Detected PCI ID for VGA: 01:00.0 0300: 10de:0101 (rev 10) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
Trying again with indirect rendering:
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

Thanks
