Hi,

I am having trouble with the display on my Ubuntu 8.04; It seems like its out of focus or blury and gives me a headache when trying to use it.

The monitor is a Philips 201B CRT (http://tinyurl.com/43re3z
)
My graphics card is a 128MB RADEON X300-SE PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT

I am using the restricted drivers for my graphics card

My resolution is set at 1600 x 1200 85Hz

Its crystal clear when using Windows or SUSE, but on ubuntu its just not right.

I also noticed that my monitor hasn't been detected. It just says 'Unknown', when I go into the resolution settings.

Any ideas on what I can try to correct this please?

I am not an expert, but have you got your screen settings, but you may have set your screen fonts to one of the LCD fonts, which will actually look fuzzy on your CRT monitor.

I had a look and I am not using LCD fonts and settings. I played around with the resolution and set it to 1024x768 and it seems a bit better but not perfect. I can live with it like this if I have to.

Do you have the documentation for your monitor to find what the supported maximum resolution is?

One thing about CRT monitors, they will attempt to display resolutions which the dot pitch on the display will not really support. They are more forgiving than LCD monitors, but will generate a fuzzy display if the display does not match.
