Why does Ubuntu only offer Eclipse 3.2? Eclipse 3.4 has been released and has many new features. The Android sdk doesn't even work with 3.2 and most distros support eclipse 3.4.

Sure I could manually install the tar ball, but I prefer to have apt-get/synaptic/etc manage my packages. So why no 3.4? What's up with that?

BTW, if I created a .deb (not that I know how to do that) from the tar ball could I get Ubuntu to use it?

I had no trouble installing it from the tar ball on the eclipse website. It just seems odd that Ubuntu doesn't provide the new version.

Will eclipse 3.4 not make it into the 8.10 Intrepid Ibex release?

Generally Ubuntu only provides security patches to versions. For newer versions, they can sometimes be provided in backports. (System > Admistration> Software Sources > Third Party Software > click on Backports.)
