Hello Ubuntu community.
I have been using Ubuntu for about a year now and am very happy with it. I am running a Dell with a 15.4" wide screen and I prefer to have the panels on the side of my windows instead of the top and bottom. (Its just a personal preference, I like the program windows large, square, and space efficient. Since web pages are made vertical a taller web browser works better without the panels blocking the top and bottom of the screen) I understand that the two panels can be easily moved to any side of the screen I like but it seems that gnome does not do this efficiently.

My question to all of you is-- Is there a theme, a trick, some tools, or any other means to make the panels fit efficiently and look good? Is this even possible in gnome? Does KDE do this? (I would be willing to give KDE a chance) Or am I just plane out of luck.

Thank you for your answers.
