ubuntu onto a deskpro 6000

friend has need for a machine to run a broswer and a big java app.

It has win 98 on it now.

Can ubuntu cope with a compaq wierd bios and an adaptec scsi card with another bios?

I have to be reasonably sure of success before I blow away his ******* setup useless though it may be.

I'm reasonably certain that Ubuntu can cope but I would suggest cloning the Drive to a backup hard drive first.

DiskCopy 2.0 (http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/) Is a really easy backup tool I like to use.
