Hi,

I am trying to install Ubuntu Desktop 8.04 as a fresh install and want to have the drive I boot off mirrored. My BIOS doesn't support software RAID so I want to achieve it with Ubuntu instead.

I have two 500GB drives both are empty.

I did a Google search for how to set up Ubuntu with mirrored raid during install and it mentioned selecting an option in the filesystem type for creating RAID but I can't find this (I am using the alternate install CD).

Does anyone know what I need to do or where I may be going wrong?

Thanks,

Matt

Linux Journal Nov 2008 issue has a nice article on Linux software RAID and using it with Ubuntu 8.04.

As its the current issue, you'll have to sign up for their free trial offer to view it: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/10217

I set up 6.06 to boot from RAID 1, not sure it was worth the trouble, but searching the Ubuntu forums and howtos should find the instructions I used.
